ISEE Upper Level
Belen and Carrollton | 9th Grade Entrance Exam

This is an intensive 13-class course that prepares for the ISEE Lower Level test administered to fifth grade boys who want to attend either Belen Jesuit or other schools in sixth grade. The course is divided into two types of classes: Teaching classes, where students learn new material and practice tests. All teaching classes and practice tests are two and a half hours. The course begins in the middle of August and ends before the entrance exam. On the first day of classes students get a book with all the material they will need for the course, meaning all notes and all homework.

The ISEE Lower-Level test has four sections. Two English: Verbal Reasoning and Reading Comprehension and two math: Quantitative Reasoning and Mathematics. The course prepares the students for each section of the test. Students will be taught many test taking skills designed specifically for each type of question they will encounter in each section of the entrance exam. Students will also always be given practice exercises for them to do at home; this homework reinforces the material taught in class and gives the students the opportunity to practice in order to gain speed.

As part of the course students are given four practice tests. All tests are timed, just like the entrance exam. Practice tests give the students the opportunity to train under real test like conditions in order to correct any mistakes in their test taking skills; this is especially beneficial for those students who consider themselves poor test takers. All practice tests have the same format as the entrance exam, different questions, but the same style of questions as in the entrance exam. After each practice test all parents receive a detailed report of the student’s grade, this way parents can clearly follow how students are doing in the course.
