HSPT
Archdiocese of Miami | 9th Grade Entrance Exam

This is an intensive 20-class course that prepares students to take the HSPT test administered to eight grade students who want to attend one of the high schools that are part of the Archdiocese of Miami, such as Lourdes, La Salle, Saint Brendan, Columbus, and others. On the first day of the course students are given a book with all the notes and all the homework for the entire course. The course is divided into two types of classes: Teaching classes where students learn new material, and practice tests. All teaching classes are 2 hours 30 minutes. The course begins about a week before the school year begins and ends the week right before the entrance exam.

The HSPT test has five sections three English and two math: Verbal Skills, Language, Reading Comprehension, Quantitative Skills, and General Mathematics. The course prepares the students for each section of the test. Students are taught test taking skills and tricks designed specifically for each of the type of questions they will encounter in each section of the entrance exam. The homework reinforces the material taught in class and gives the students the opportunity to practice in order to gain speed.

As part of the course students are given seven practice tests; these tests will be timed, just like the entrance exam. Practice tests give the students the opportunity to practice under real test like conditions in order to correct any mistakes in their test taking skills before they sit down for the entrance exam; this is especially beneficial for those students who consider themselves poor test takers. All practice tests have the same format as the entrance exam, meaning the same style of questions.

In order to finish the course before the day of the entrance exam, practice tests are always given on a different day from the teaching classes, therefore students will need to meet twice a week about six times during the duration of the course.
-
To preserve group dynamics makeups will absolutely not be allowed for either teaching classes or practice tests.
-
All teaching classes have been videotaped and can be viewed online. The course book has all the notes students need for every class.
-
If a student misses a practice test it will be emailed to them. This way the practice test can be taken at home at the student’s convenience.
The tuition for the HSPT course is $1,250, this includes all the items outlined in The Flores Tutoring Advantage.
